“‘Waiting for Lefty’ stirs up more and more anger at the big corruptions that are destroying the average American’s life.”

Is this an error or an insight? When I saw this in my Book of Horrors, at first I wasn’t sure why I had written it down—only on second reading did I realize the word was “corruptions,” not “corporations.”

I’m pretty sure my student meant “corporations.” Did she make a spelling error that SpellCheck corrected incorrectly? Did she think this is how to spell “corporations”? Or did she consider both to be the same word?

Reading the news, having dealt with a number of these entities myself, and cheering on the Occupy movement, I’m ready to entertain the third possibility.

Down with the big corruptions!
